There I was — coming off my most successful year professionally yet still struggling personally, as a piece of me kept searching wildly for that mythical unicorn of balance — work, life, and greater purpose.
The thing is, the hunt wasn’t going too well. I had convinced myself that the sacrifices made to advance my career would somehow make up for the time that could have been spent with my wife and kids or out impacting the world. Somehow, future dollars would magically buy back time lost today.
Enter Covid-19.
Time suddenly seemed to stand still and jump forward all at once.
Every economy in the world was struggling to survive. Every company I was involved in and every entrepreneur I knew was feeling the pain. Pain I saw turning into a growing sense of fear and helplessness.
Then one morning during my morning routine of reading and journaling, I came across a Churchill quote that provided me with a fresh perspective:
“To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour.”
